    GUN

    by Eric Bush

Audio wise this game is awesome, the sounds of the weapons are fiercely intense and make Gun feel very authentic. Its not only the weapons that sound good, practically everything does, from the sound of your horses hooves hitting the floor to the bellows of the rather pissed off Apaches; it all sounds so good and makes this game that much better to play. The cut scenes are a treat, the voiceovers are perfect, each voice matches the character perfectly and there is not a single trace of dubbing which can ruin other games. The game soundtrack is also fun to listen to; every song has been chosen perfectly and it really is nice to have good music which fits the time period, to cheer you up as you fight to answer the many questions throughout the game. Overall they couldn’t have really done any better with this games audio aspect.

The question is, what kind of lifespan does this game have? Well I would say on normal / hard difficulty you’ll get a good 10-12 hours out of it, not including the sub missions. I’m not saying that the sub missions are pointless, you get a few upgraded stats, but the missions have been dumbed down to such an extent that if you ever fail one you should crawl into a corner and cry. The main storyline will keep you going and going, but once you have completed it you will find it’s very hard to pick up and replay old missions. You can upgrade weapons which will keep you begging for money, but apart from that it’s only the story that keeps this game alive, and once you’ve finished it I doubt this game will gather anything but dust.

    Final Word

In the end this is a fun game overall.  With a quick draw to die for, a plot which has betrayal, love, greed and death all rolled into a quest for vengeance, there really isn’t much else to ask for out of this type of game. There are loads of sub missions and you can collect bigger and more powerful guns as the game goes on, also the Xbox 360 offers you GamerScore which means you must do those discussed side missions just to get the extra 20 or 30 points to show off your skill online. This really is how a Western shooter is supposed to be made, the players at Neversoft have shown that they can do more than skateboarding games. This is a mature rated game and rightly so, you’ll see buckets of blood and even though the graphics are nothing out of this world for this console the game is still a decent launch title for any 360 owner.
