Apparently the external HD-DVD player for the Xbox 360 will not be released in Asia because of a lack of HD DVD's to actually watch there.
Digitimes reports that while there are no changes to Microsoft's plans to release the drive in North America later this year, according to Microsoft Taiwan the drive will not be made available in Asia.
This is because in order to make use of the HD-DVD player, you obviously need HD-DVD movies, which apparently do not exist in Asia in sufficient supply to make the player worthwhile.
Microsoft Taiwan also reportedly said that they believe neither HD-DVD nor Blu-Ray will outright win the next gen DVD battle, and become the global standard.
