Speaking at GDC, John Schappert from Microsoft said that the Xbox 360 has sold over 18 million hardware units worldwide, and that they have no current plans for an external Blu-Ray drive.
Schappert, who was Microsoft's Keynote speaker, told EuroGamer, "
I think that we've sold 18 million, the last time I've checked. 18 million hardware units worldwide."
The discussion also turned to the possibility of Microsoft coming out with a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360, of which there have been
many rumors of late. Schappert said that this was unlikely to happen, since the external HD DVD drive that they released did so poorly, "
It was a 3 percent attach rate...you also have to take into account how did the other accessory do when you look at the future."
