Artificial Intelligence varies and I have only encountered a handful of games which included distinguishable AI. As the Scottish say, “on the whole”, enemy intelligence in Army of Two is present and accounted for although their consistency remains to be questioned. When using transparent cover, if a foe happens to gain wind of your dastardly scheme he will fall back and relocate to cover. More often than not they will move to a location with a higher concentration of their cohorts making it much more difficult to flank without incident. If suitable circumstances were to arise, they have been known to chuck a deuce but their accuracy is incredibly horrid. Do not take these foes lightly because they are some dodgy bastards that bust out Barry Sanders like jukes to flee from the onslaught. They can also take a Guantánamo Bay beating. Center mass and limb shots have very little effect.

In order to strike swiftly you must get off head shots consistently otherwise they can take damn near a full clip. The suicide bomber variations are incredibly accurate and effective. Their title is self explanatory and if these bad boys are headed your way it’s best to take them out before you’re enveloped in flames of martyrdom. All this only holds true when rocking standard default armaments. Completed missions and various side quests earn you cheddar which can then be spent on purchasing more efficient and effective weaponry. These straps vary from pistols, boom sticks, RPG launchers and sniper rifles to cite just a few examples. Not only can you upgrade weapons, you can unlock and obtain armor and a wide assortment of masks. These upgrades are necessary to progress because the enemy will flank, organize, and bombard. The AI flaws that do exists are nothing major but there have been occasions where I wondered to myself if they were speed balling or straight free basing. On one particular occasion I used a car door as a shield. Rios followed, popping off rounds while behind the safety of my 1972 Ford Pinto door panel. Rather than fall back and head for higher ground or cover, these inept killers walked directly in my line of sight just a few feet away. Obviously they assumed I was about to drop some philosophical bombshell but to make matters worse, Rios must have gone cock eyed because it took him a solid 10 seconds to see the men staring at us before he put them to sleep. Besides a few minor transgressions the AI is decent and at higher difficulties they pose a much greater challenge.

Cooperative play is by far the most appealing aspect of Army of Two. The Versus is nothing spectacular so those who are looking for competitive online gaming, Army of Two will not quench your death match thirst. Currently, there are 4 online game types; Versus, Warzone, Extraction and Bounties. All of which are 4 player, two versus two match-ups. Not a very robust LIVE selection if one was to ask me but the co-op is quite enjoyable. You can play via LIVE or split screen with a friend. Every single-player element exists in multiplayer as well including earning cash and buying weapons. It is good fun to run amok with a friend but its replay value is extremely minimal. After completing the game what more can you do? Possibly a higher difficulty but with that being the exception to the rule, nothing much is left to accomplish. The same is applied to versus inasmuch as two players mobbing up two additional players doesn’t have the excitement and anticipation a full sixteen has. We must keep in mind EA published Army of Two so expect additional content to be available on the Marketplace soon. After all, that is what EA does best, take our money. It is plausible they might unload additional maps or game types although I wouldn’t hold my breath.
