    Major League Baseball 2K6

    by Arthur K

There isn’t much to be said about the graphical engine of Major League Baseball 2K6. I was extremely disappointed with how this game looks. The animations are good but are far from seamless and the game pretty much contains no anti-aliasing which can qualify it as one of the jaggiest on the 360. The textures are extremely low resolution, the fields and the stadiums look terrible; so do the players, umpires, and the crowd. In fact, the crowd looks so down right terrible that it’s painful to watch whenever the game zooms in on them. But other than looking terrible this game has tons of graphical glitches.

The sound aspect of the game wasn’t as disappointing as the graphics but still nothing great. The game’s announcers did a pretty good job and I thought the audio stitching was pretty good for the most part. The crowd audio was good but not as powerful as it should have been; they did chant player’s names and make remarks based on if you’re the home or the away team. The music soundtrack was actually pretty good; a good job to 2k on that.

The online play is pretty solid and didn’t really lag when I was trying it out. You have your basic leader boards and the ability to join matches. At the same time you can join a league or even start your own league and have tournament play. Playing MLB2K6 on Xbox Live won’t be any different than playing it offline; you still get that same experience.

    Final Word

The best way to summarize MLB 2K6 is quantity over quality. You get tons of features and plenty of content to fiddle around with; but none of it really felt like quality material. This game definitely needed more work; there are plenty of bugs and anomalies that I noticed every time I gave the game a spin. Even small things like the “Insider Edge” logo seemed like it wasn’t cropped properly and had odd, non-anti-aliased white edges on it.

If you are a baseball fan, you should rent this title since there isn’t any other choice out now for the 360. There is some fun to be had once you get used to the game.
