COD4 Variety Map Pack Goes for MS Certification

by Matt Gibbs

Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward has confirmed that the new Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4, due for release early in April, has gone to Microsoft for certification.

Included in the pack are the following maps, previews of which you can see below:
  • Creek
  • Broadcast
  • Killhouse
  • Chinatown
You might also be interested to know some of the other fixes that were bumped into the DLC:

Along with the new maps next week, we took this opportunity to slip in a change to the Clan Tags in the game along with a few other minor fixes. We heard your cries and will be tweaking the Clan Tags with this DLC patch (which adds support for the new maps). The new Clan Tag update will re-allow you to use special characters in your clan tags, but still prevents the exploit which allowed images (like Left Thumbstick and button images). Thanks to everyone who sent us feedback related to Clan Tags since the feature patch!

Oh, and one other thing - Playstation 3 users will eventually get these maps, but they'll have to wait about 3 weeks ;).

Gotta love how instantly everyone comments Halo Vs. COD4 even though this article has nothing to do with Halo. The comparisons have been beat into the ground - play the one you like and leave it alone already! ...With that said, COD4 multiplayer was getting a bit stale, and I look forward to the new maps.

WOW, wages of sin has greats points there. That's why Im getting Both COD4 and Halo 3 map packs. They both have different things that makes me switch from time to time andI just have fun with both of them. It's that the point of games, to have a good time?

1)The total maps available for Halo3 on April 15th will be 6. You seem to forget that this is Halo3 second map pack. 2) How is losing experience a negative? One could argue and I will, that losing exp is a deterant for people who abandon there team when it gets going bad for them. Instead of tuffing it out, they leave, unbalancing the game. Not having that option seems to be a good route to go for beginners that want to dip in and out of games they are losing just so they can improve there own stats. 3)Again, having a run button vs not having one isn't a /-, it's a preference of what you like in the gameplay, and if it fits the game. 3)You can drop and shoot back, when you unlock that option. You can similate this action in Halo3 by dropping nades. It's not martydom but it works. Cod4 while a good game, is the most overated game of last year and it's a pitty that it's held with such high regard. While a fun game in single player and the multiplayer is fun, IMO it doesn't match up to Halo3. You speak of Halo3 being so "2007" in certain regards, would you say that about Cod4 AI. Talk about circa 1990, monster closets shouldn't be the norm in games anymore, especially shooters. Ramping up the difficulty to lets say, veteran, doesn't make the AI any smarter, you just take more damage, and thats not fun. I could go on and on about Cod4 but in the end, it's only an opinion. To me, Cod4 is fun but I allready returned it. Besides the pretty graphics and a few really cool moments during the singleplayer, Cod4 didn't offer anything for me. IMO Cod2 was a better, more polished gameplay experience (single player). The perk system of Cod4 isn't compelling to me in the slightest. While a cool idea, I didn't feel compelled to keep playing the game enough to care. The multiplayer experience of Halo3 is much more intense not only during the actual combat but in the overall necessity for team co-operation. In the end, for me, Cod4 is a shooter for people who are new to shooters or don't have alot of skill. Don't get me wrong, there are some awesome FPS players who get down of Cod4, but IMO Halo3 takes alot more skill to play and for me, when it's time to do some serious bullet blazing online with or without my pals, Halo3 wins hands down everytime. My suggestion, enjoy both they both have great things to offer and only a fool would be so hard up as to simply not acknowledge the greatness of both.

were getting 4 maps on april 3rd and 3 maps on halo 3 on april 15, you dont lose xp if you decide to leave a cod4 game but lose xp when you leave a halo 3, i can run faster if i want in cod4 and only have 1 running speed on halo 3, i can drop or shoot back before i die in cod4 but cant do that in halo 3, theres so many things on halo 3 that are so 2007 and so many things on cod4 that are 2008 new, halo 3 is never going to recover from being second place and when gta4 comes out its going to be 3rd place and after gears of war comes out its going to be a thing of the past, halo 3 has entered a new era it was designed for i feel bad for it
