Microsoft Releases Surprising Update to HD-DVD Drive

In a move that surprised everyone Microsoft today released a firmware update to their external HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360; Major Nelson is reporting that it improves compatibility with certain titles and adds additional support for network features. The update will automatically download the next time you try to watch a HD-DVD movie, no one knows exactly why they dropped this update considering the format is as good as dead.
