Capcom to Dead Rising Fans: "Buy a New T.V."

    by Nelson Rodriguez

The zombie-centric developer has announced that gamers awaiting a patch to fix the illegible text on standard definition televisions will be waiting forever.  After owners of the hit game raised a ruckus about the horrific text rendering on non-HD sets, Capcom made a few vague suggestions and consulted their development team to see if a patch could be developed.

The answer is none too comforting for past-gen t.v. owners.  Though your commitment to saving tasty civilians in the mall is much appreciated,  help for you isn't coming.  Ever.

Capcom determined that the work necessary to fix the problem is beyond the scope of a patch.  It would appear that, in sympathy with their fans, they hate the idea of having to backtrack and start from square one, after putting so much time into the game.  We feel your pain Capcom, trust us.

I have a suggestion that Capcom has not considered, but should be just about as useful:  Call a friend with an HDTV and ask them to play along with you over the phone, in unison.  As you encounter the same scenes and missions, have them read the text aloud to you.  Should work like a charm.  That is, if you have a phone in that standard definition world of yours.

All leg-pulling aside, here is what Capcom had to say in an interview with 1up.com:

"Due to the amount of text and the size of the patch necessary to change the text, a patch isn't possible for this issue.  We had asked the team if it was even possible but ... due to the scope of what a patch would need to cover, it wasn't possible."
