    Battlefield: Bad Company - Review

    by Dakota Grabowski

The main problem with Bad Company is the silly single-player storyline. Maybe it was the corny one-liners or the stereotypical characters, but it never is able to deliver a solid exposition that players will care about. The jokes are bland, the dialogue is stale and all of the characters’ reactions to what is occurring within the storyline were typical. Basically following a group of soldiers as they decide to go behind enemy lines to find a collection of gold, Bad Company’s campaign is forgettable.

Battlefield titles usually look graphically pleasing and Bad Company is no different. The best attribute has to be the destructible environments, but the character models and animations are great too. Also, when the action intensifies, the frame rates never slow down. But when it’s all said and done, players will remember the ability to blow a hole in a wall and run over trees in Bad Company.

The audio for Bad Company is impressive to say the least. Having a surround sound system does help out the overall experience, but even without one, players should notice how efficient the sound effects are. On the other hand, there is a downside within the audio department – namely, the voice-acting. It’s over the top and the dialogue is cheesy all the way through. You might as well put the cinematic sequences on mute and make up your own dialogue as it will be more entertaining that way.

Fans of the first-person shooter genre will find that Battlefield: Bad Company is an all right game with a few interesting features that’ll keep their attention for a few days or so. But when you have played all of the eight maps and finish the lousy storyline, players will venture back to their favorite FPS – whatever it may be – after their short diversion through Bad Company. Battlefield: Bad Company isn’t a game that’ll win any awards this holiday when the year is over with. If it wasn’t for the smooth online gameplay or incredibly fun Frostbite Engine, I’d almost advise skipping over Bad Company altogether. But you should at least rent Bad Company to see what hype is all about.

I rented this game and kept it about a week past when it was due back to the store. It was pretty fun but I disliked certain things about it. First of all, the fact that there's a certain gun that can only be unlocked by preordering the game is pretty lame if you didn't know anything about the game before it came out. Secondly, I had a major problem unlocking some other guns via some bs with my EA account not being able to link to the game correctly for about four or five days (not cool when you rented the game). They could have done without this and just made these guns regular unlockable weapons. There was absolutely no need to create these extra "Find All Five" hoops for players to jump through, especially when some of them didn't work without having to contact customer service (I wasn't the only one who had a problem with this judging from what I've seen on forums). Other than that, the vehicles were wicked fun, there was a lot of teamwork incentive in multiplayer, the graphics were good, the gameplay was good, the controls were fine, and some of the toys you can play with are just awesome. Nothing like being a sniper, whipping out a laser designator, and locking a cruise missile on an enemy vehicle. I didn't buy the game but I'd say it's definitely worth checking out the demo or renting it to see if buying it might be for you.

I actually liked Bad Company a lot, thought the multiplayer was much better than the single-player but overall a decent experience in today's world of so-so video games....

I thought this game was fun. Yes there is a lack of maps and game modes but it still delivers a new experience that we have not had before; blow anything and everything up.

I played the demo and thought this game was absolutely terrible. From controls to mediocre graphics. The only game that I have played worse then this lately was Frontline Fuel of War. I would definately still play Battlefield 2 over this game.
