    Red Faction: Guerrilla MP Impressions

    by Dakota Grabowski

Having played Red Faction: Guerilla recently with many Xbox Live gamers who were vocal about the demo that hit Xbox Live, we thought it would be nice to include their thoughts and opinions about how the game is turning out. Before jumping into their thoughts, we want to provide our opinions on how the game is shaping up.

First off, everything that is set before the player is virtually destructible. If you whip out your sledgehammer and begin swinging away at a building, you’ll most likely bring it down to its knees in fifteen or so seconds. It’s entertaining to say the least; especially if you knock over a building and it collapses on your enemies that never saw it coming.

The next portion of gameplay that stuck out was the power-ups. Having the ability to run through walls with the Rhino power-up or run at a fast speed with Fleetleet, Red Faction: Guerilla proposes new and interesting methods to disposing your opposition. Altogether, there were five power-ups that were found in the demo including: Rhino, Fleetleet, Jetpack, Firepower, and Concussion. Firepower basically added more punch to your attacks and Concussions sent out a shockwave to harm an enemy.

Lastly, there were technical issues that occurred more than they should have. Finding a match is often difficult as the server will boot you out from time to time and even in matches, it’ll ask you to reconnect. Too many times were there matches that began with a team full of six players while the other only had three since somehow they were lost when establishing the game. So let’s hope these issues are fixed before the release of the title.

Now, let’s move on to the opinions of a handful of gamers (represented by their gamertags) that we ran into in the beta. Covering six topics, many of them shared their thoughts on how to improve their game, their favorite power-ups, the graphics and a few other areas of the game.

    Topic #1: Power-Ups:

    • “The Rhino completely destroys shit. With the Rhino you can basically run through the wall and knock an enemy over. I love the Rhino.” – The BigKahona
    • “The whole idea of the jetpacks is cool. I like the power-ups.” – Romeodude
    • “The jetpack is really useful to get to higher places.” – DJHVidal
    • “The Concussion is real nice. It’s a power-up that shoots out a shockwave and knocks the enemy over.” – The BigKahona
    • “Fleetleet and firepower are my two favorites in a virtual tie. They’re a lot of fun to use.” – Da Halfbreed
