Kid Tries to Imitate Master Chief, Shoots Himself in Head

    by Eric Bush

Another alleged videogame related death. This time involving the popular Xbox shooter Halo. 11 year old Johnson Creek boy Nimm was apparently a big fan of Halo, even taking a liking to firearms after playing the futuristic FPS. While at home skipping school Nimm was apparently trying to imitate moves from the game with his .22 caliber rifle (a common pastime for the child). However he did not obviously grasp that a round could still be loaded in the chamber even when the magazine ejected and was found shot through the head yesterday.

An 11-year-old Johnson Creek boy died from a gunshot wound Thursday at his home. Foul play is not suspected and the sheriff's department said this morning it appears the shooting was accidental.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, dispatchers received a report of the shooting in the town of Farmington at approximately 2:15 p.m. Thursday. The deceased person was Joshua J. Nimm, 11, of W5098 River Road, Johnson Creek.

Deputies, along with personnel from the Johnson Creek Police Department, Johnson Creek EMS and Fort Atkinson paramedics, all responded to the residence where the shooting occurred.

There, with his father, Nimm was located with a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner's office about 35 minutes later. The cause of death was ruled to be a single, .22 caliber gunshot wound to the head.

wow dude im sorry but theres no way in **** you can blame this on games like everyone else 1) the kid skips school and probably was a little ******* like i was 2) why would have a 22 cal rifle accessible by a 11 yearold at home 3) the kid should know the difference between games and reality

dudee...thats insane. A 11yr old playing with a actual gun? Parents should have control over that. I wasnt allowed near a gun at 11. Cause of the stupid scenarios. and It made sense as you get older. Why when you're young, dont touch guns. Period

how dumb can kids get? i was never that stupid when i was 11 years old. and how can the media possibly focus on the kid immitating halo (which is unknown if nobody was around to see it) and not on the fact that his parents allowed their 11 year old child to get into a situation where he had a loaded gun unsupervised. this isn't a case of tragedy caused by video games, it's a case of terrible parenting

Wow, just wow. I feel sorry for the young man but there is no reason at all to pin this on games, where are the parnets......

How does an 11-year-old come into possession of a firearm without supervision?

I would have to agree 100%, this has nothing to do with gaming but the mainstream media will spin anything to create a story. Much larger issues here than the kid playing Halo.......

Don't try to pin this on video games. 1) 11 year old playing an M rated game 2) 11 year with access to a rifle when he doesn't know how to use it 3) skipping school. I love halo but I don't recall Master Chief aiming the gun at his own head at any point in the series. Where are the comments from the parents on this one. They should be charged.

hmm halo is rated m and the kid is 11. not even the point why did an 11 year old have access to a rifle... i understand that kids can gain access to parents gun safes etc. but honestly IMO the least worrisome part out of this whole article is that he was imitating halo.
