Platinum Hits Labels to Get Slapped on Xbox 360 Gamesby Nelson Rodriguez
Microsoft announced today that, starting October 15th, budget gamers will be able to land a few Xbox 360 titles under the new Platinum Hits program. Mimicking the wildly successful Xbox program of the same name, select titles that sell more than 400,000 units will be considered for the reduced price plan.
The games to be included in the Platinum lineup this fall will be: Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo: Elements of Power and Need for Speed Most Wanted. The Platinum price tag will be $29.99.
While 30 bucks is a great price for an actual brick of platinum, these games have been available in this price range for months. I bought Perfect Dark Zero at retail several months ago for $20 and saw $20 copies of Kameo sitting right next to it. PGR3 has been discounted at Costco for quite some time.
Platinum titles were a big part of my library for the original Xbox, so I am all for the idea. I just can't claim it means much until there are actual price drops from what is already available.
I suppose the new packaging will allow you to show off to your friends who don't know better. "Yo, son, check out my platinum game! Oh, yeah. I got it like that."
