Tomb Raider: Underworld to Use Innovative AI Software

    by Eric Bush

Mountain View, CA – October 15, 2008 - Middleware developer BabelFlux LLC announced today that its NavPower AI middleware package has been licensed by Crystal Dynamics for their upcoming game, Tomb Raider: Underworld.

"NavPower has allowed us to innovate with our AI based gameplay", said Sean Vesce, General Manager of Crystal Dynamics. "Having support for flying, swimming, and wall crawling creatures out of the box really accelerates the game development."

The NavPower system provides full 3-D AI motion planning, with features such as an industry leading NavGraph auto-generation process, high-quality character steering, full 3-D dynamic obstacles, multi-core processing, streaming, and integrated visual debugging.

"We are pleased with the success that Crystal Dynamics has had using NavPower on Tomb Raider: Underworld," says BabelFlux CTO David Miles. "Features such as the 3-D dynamic obstacles really enhanced AI gameplay in some of their complex environments."
