This is easily overlooked when you are having a tremendous amount of fun for the majority of Saints Row 2’s single-player campaign. Perhaps it was so entertaining because Volition did a great job of providing a well-rounded voice-cast that includes all of the following: Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Keith David (The Arbiter from Halo), Carlos Ferro (Dominic from Gears of War), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Brandon Keener (Garrus from Mass Effect), Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl), Michael Rapaport (Hitch).
Still though, when walking around Stilwater, the people who live in the city barely know of your existence. Next time, maybe Volition will concentrate on beefing up the enemy A.I. Many times, the enemies would stand around without moving forward to attack but it’s hands down better than what is found in Mercenaries 2 for the Xbox 360.
An addition to Saints Row 2 that is going to win over a lot of new fans is cooperative play. Even without split-screen co-op, players should be able to enjoy co-op through online or system link. While the majority of my sessions through co-op have been with buddies who would rather go on a spree killing everything in their sight, it’s an entertaining romp regardless of who you play with.
Improving their multiplayer, Volition has created an all around better package. While the world isn’t open up as it is in the single-player campaign, the multiplayer still allows up to twelve players to cap each other with their favorite guns. So if you want some basic shoot ‘em up deathmatch game types, Saints Row 2 offers a few engaging game modes to experience.
Saints Row 2 is a extremely entertaining action title that will win over tons of new fans with its craziness. If you’ve ever wanted to be free to do whatever you’d like in a huge city without complications of entertaining “virtual friends” (GTA IV), Saints Row 2 is a game aimed at you. It’s recommended that you try this frenetic title to see how fun it is for yourself.
