Valve Starts "Dude, Where's My Thumb" Photo Contest

    by Eric Bush

Los Angeles, CA - October 28, 2008 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (Steam and Source), today announced a Zombie Photo Contest that ties into the $10 million marketing campaign for its upcoming Xbox 360 and PC thriller, Left 4 Dead.

The contest challenges gamers to take a creative photograph of themselves in front of one of the outdoor media placements in London, New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area. Contest rules and submission guidelines can be found at www.L4D.com/contest. All entries will be reviewed and judged by Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. The top 25 entrants will win a free copy of Left 4 Dead, and the overall winner will receive a new gaming PC from AMD.

"Working with Gibson Media to infect buses, train stations, highways and city streets in many major metropolitan areas in the US and UK has been a tremendous contribution to the game's pre-launch momentum," said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve. "Pre-orders are now running 95% over those of The Orange Box, and we're getting set to launch the pre-release demo and television campaign to further fuel this momentum."

Left 4 Dead is the new survival action game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Playable in single player, co-operative, and multiplayer modes, Left 4 Dead is one of the most anticipated releases of 2008 and winner of numerous pre-launch awards, including Best of E3 from multiple outlets.

Left 4 Dead is due for release on the Xbox 360 and PC on November 18 in North America and November 21 in the rest of the world. For more information, please visit www.l4d.com.
