Earlier this year, we reported that Activision and MTV were negotiating a deal to offer songs from The Beatles’ catalog in their music video games. Today, PlanetXbox360.com has received an invitation from Viacom to participate in a conference call in which The Beatles' Apple Corps Ltd. and MTV will announce "an exclusive agreement to develop an unprecedented global music project."
That sounds like either we are getting Beatles songs for Rock Band and Rock Band 2, or may be an entire Beatles-only Rock Band title similar to Activision's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith or Guitar Hero: Metallica games. The Wall Street Journal has confirmed with "people familiar with the matter" that The Beatles have licensed songs to MTV Networks' Rock Band video game series.
TeamXbox asked MTV Networks if it had any statement about the announcement, but an MTV spokesperson responded that the company was declining comment until the details were revealed in the conference call. We'll have more information on this announcement as it develops.
