I was under fire, and at first it seemed as if I wouldn’t get out alive. With only a little health left I managed to hijack a car. Driving it as fast as it would go, there were loads of the Presidents men behind constantly shooting at me. If it carried on like this I was dead for sure. There was only one thing for it; I had to drive off the cliff in front of me and take them with me. As I drove off the cliff time seemed to slow down for a moment as I saw their trucks flying off the cliff as well. Unbeknownst to them, I had a trick up my sleeve. As my car headed towards certain doom, I managed to get out and parachute to safety with enough time to watch as El Presidente’s men crashed to the ground in a nice big explosion. Heck Yeah!
If the PlanetXbox360 team were ever to start a revolution of our own, then San Esperito would be a great place to start. Full of numerous exotic locations this tropic paradise is only let down by a corrupt government and their love of Weapons of Mass Destruction. So this is where you come in, it’s your job to start a revolution and overthrow this corrupt government.
If Mercenaries and GTA were to get it on and have a little baby of their own then Just Cause would be it. It certainly does a great job of making you feel free and able to explore the Island as you see fit, which is certainly a good thing. If you ever want a break from the storyline then you’re free to explore the Island and do as you like. You play as Rico Rodriguez as he attempts to overthrow El Presidente and his fascist regime. It isn’t the longest game though with just over 20 missions for the main storyline. There are however, an excessive amount of side missions for you take part in, problem is they get extremely repetitive and isn’t much variation.

Throughout the game you will be graced by a generous amount of vehicles, as you’ll be making your way around the island via land, sea and air. You’ll also be performing a vast amount of stunts throughout the game such as jumping from vehicle to vehicle, parasailing and base jumping. This is certainly one of the areas where Just Cause shines brightest. Especially when in the air, as the views are nothing short of spectacular. Vehicles controls are generally good, especially aerial vehicles which control superbly.

Just Cause is severely let down by the disappointing gunplay however. Quite often it’s simply just a case of holding down the trigger while the auto targeting does all the work, it locks on as you fire and before you know it you’ve just killed 5 enemies without even thinking about it. Because of this, you just don’t get a feeling for the weapons. Quite often the enemies fly back literally 50 yards when hit with your bullets like some stunt men from a James Bond movie – with springs attached to their feet. The difficulty increases later in the game, however it’s still not enough to make the game too much of a challenge, it wouldn’t be difficult to rent and complete it on your first day of rental at all. This isn’t helped by the fact that the game can be quite forgiving. Throughout the missions are checkpoints which once reached means you don’t have to restart the whole mission if you die, you just revert back to the checkpoint. Now this can be both a blessing and a curse, for example, at one point in the game every time we died the game placed us back at near impossible escapable situation involving a helicopter and a cliff. It’s not always a bad thing though, and in most cases was quite a relief to have an option to revert back to the checkpoint.
