Len Wiseman says "Gears of War Movie to Be a Trilogy"

    by Eric Bush

Last night, Bloody-Disgusting hit up the red carpet premiere of Sony Screen Gems’ "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans," where they met Underworld series creator and producer Len Wiseman. After talking about the Underworld series, Wiseman, also known for being married to Kate Beckinsale and directing "Live Free or Die Hard," revealed a few bits about his next project: the big screen adaptation of Gears of War.

First, Wiseman confirmed something we already knew: He's co-writing the film with Chris Morgan (Wanted, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious). Second, he revealed something we hoped. He has plans for Gears of War to be a film trilogy. "The hope is that were wanting to do a three movies and really cover the bases on everything. Basically a harder edged Lord Of The Rings."

He also revealed something Gearheads might not like; the film will focus on the sci-fi action aspect of Gears of War, rather than the Locust Horde:  "It’s going to be much more [on the] science fiction side of it than the creature side of it. I’ve always been much more of a sci-fi action fan than a horror fan."

To find out how Wiseman got to know the video game and why it ended up appearing in "Live Free or Die Hard," click here. The Gears of War film is being co-financed and co-produced by Legendary Pictures, with Len Wiseman directing and Chris Morgan writing the script based on a first draft penned by Stuart Beattie. Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski in an executive producer of the film.
