One of the biggest changes in this “next-generation” of gaming is the insane presentation of top shelf video games; this mainly encompasses the graphics and audio. To make sure each and every aspect of a new game is appreciated gamers across the globe are investing in very high-end televisions and surround sound setups. Just like a bigger tv takes up more space and gives a top-notch quality picture one of the nicer audio setups is going to be loud, the louder the better. Because of this roommates, girlfriends, parents, and wives of gamers are pulling their hair out with late-night frustration. The headset I am about to review is not wireless, even so it was one of the most enjoyable things I have experienced in a long time. Like so many others this is one of my ongoing issues in our townhouse and I decided to go searching for a solution, I think I may have found the perfect answer with the Tritton AX Pro 5.1 gaming headset.

Because of my current employment with PlanetXbox360.com I simply cannot sacrifice audio quality for a pair of “wife approved” headphones. Luckily Tritton has the solution and I have spent the last couple of weeks putting the hardware company’s newest headset designer for gamers through one hell of a stress test. The unboxing process of the AX Pro can be quite overwhelming so I would definitely advise anyone who picks up a pair to take the time of reading the instruction manual and making sure each component is understood completely. The headset features full Dolby 5.1 surround sound, a built in Xbox LIVE microphone, and wired controller panel. I have play-tested multiple different gaming headsets and there isn’t a feature or upgrade that the Tritton one does not include. From the first time you see the AX Pro it's obvious that the people who design and created the hardware knew what they were doing.
Every inch of the headset looks fantastic, with a sleek design and endless features it's hard to find something actually wrong with it. There are two different sets of ear pads so you can pick which material fits your personal tastes the best, for me it was the leather-padded ones but some may find the cloth a more comfortable fit. The AX Pro itself is not compact or lightweight by any means but at the same time it doesn’t feel bulky, which is one of the most important features of these high-end headsets. The ear-buds completely cover your ears so no annoying noises can enter during gaming. During game testing it was very easy to hear the “true 5.1 surround sound” aspects, having gunshots echo around me in total 360 degrees of glory. Having the subwoofer included in the headset was one of the best parts about the AX Pro, as it’s usually difficult to get good-sounding bass in such a compact piece of equipment.

Over the past year I have spent a large amount of time upgrading my home audio setup and there was not a single moment during the AX Pro product test that I felt as though I was missing out on something from the game’s sound. Each and every high and low came booming through the headset, and all dialogue was clear and crisp. I have seen professional gamers using the Tritton hardware so I know it’s up to par when it comes to competitive gaming. Competitively priced at $159.99 the AX Pro is a affordable option for any gamer looking to get that amazing true 5.1 sound without the high costs (or all-night loudness) of the conventional surround sound systems. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that Tritton will continue to improve their line of gamer headsets but right now the AX Pro is one of the best on the market.
Final Score: 9/10
