    Mass Effect 2 - Preview

    by Chris McGuire

The award winning multi-platinum sci-fi RPG Mass Effect is set to return with a highly anticipated second installment of the rumored trilogy. The sequel is set to offer even more intergalactic adventures, romantic encounters and challenges of conscience though players will have to wait until Q1 2010 to reignite their space odyssey. The huge success of the first game that received critical acclaim from many industry experts will set the bar high for the sequel. Mass Effect wasn’t a game without its faults and fans of the series weren’t slow in making their feelings known many fans commented on the length of the story and the lacklustre environments Bioware where quick to make it known that they have took onboard the criticism.

What made Mass Effect so popular in the first place was the cinematic story little information has been released concerning the Plot with developers keeping this very close to their chests as all that has been said to date is “Saren's evil army of Geth soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, who are still struggling to make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even greater peril”. What various developers have said on the other hand is that players should keep their Mass Effect save files as decisions made in the first game will be carried over and will influence their characters in the sequel. This has the potential to change the face of the role playing genre and bridge the gap between the game and the player as the game continues the players story and will hopefully make each players experience different.

With such a long wait ahead for Mass Effect space groupies by the expected release date in Q1 2010 they will be sure to be breaking warp speed to re launch their intergalactic adventure and with the trusted Bioware behind the development its sure to be a top title. The fact that Bioware is taking their time with this installement should re assure fans that care is being taken to make this game better than the last. The features revealed up until now show great ambition and can only make the original game stronger. We will have to wait till 2010 or until more information is release to see if Mass Effect will eclipse its predecessor or be sucked into the black hole of the bargain bins.
