Fall Dashboard Updates:
One of the most exciting parts of Microsoft’s press conference last year was the announcement of the New Xbox Experience, or NXE. According to its unveiler, Vice President of Xbox Live John Schappert said “I’m excited to announce today that for the first time in history a consumer electronics device will be completely reinvented through software… When people around the world turn on their Xbox 360s this fall they will be greeted by an entire new interface, and entire new dashboard, creating a brand new Xbox through the magic of software.” While the NXE didn’t quite turn out as dazzling as Schappert made it sound, it certainly made a huge impact on the console itself, allowing users to stream video using Netflix and offering a revamped navigation system.

What’s coming this year?: Most likely there will be another Fall Update, as those have been happening with regularity since the launch of the Xbox 360. However, don’t expect a huge change like the one last year. Small improvements and changes will probably occur though. If any of them are relatively notable, look for Microsoft to unveil them at their conference. I’m guessing that most of the talk about the dashboard will focus on how it has become a more family friendly multimedia device.
