The 2009 E3 Expo is finally in the books, whether or not most people walked away completely satisfied is likely to be debated for months to come. It was back in Los Angeles at the massive Convention Center taking in around 40,000 people. Microsoft had a fairly positive showing with an exciting press conference and a good number of exclusive titles on showing (including Project Natal being unveiled). The rest of the time at the show was spent with third-party developers checking out the upcoming games scheduled to ship later on in 2009 or sometime in 2010. Below we have our cream of the crop, the best of the best from almost every genre of games (minus a few because it was getting too long); after spending a good bit of time with each title in the list, these are the ones that ended up walking away with awards.

- Best PS3 Game - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and God of War 3 (runner-up)
- Best Wii Game - New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sprts Resort (runner-up)
- Best PC Game – Star Wars: Old Republic and Left 4 Dead 2 (runner-up)
- Best Hardware - Project Natal and PSP Go! (runner-up)
- Best Xbox 360 Game - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction and Alan Wake (runner-up)
Individual Awards:
- Best Original Game - Alan Wake and Brink (runner-up)
- Best Multiplatform Game - Final Fantasy XIII and Bioshock 2 (runner-up)
- Best XBLA Game - Shadow Complex and Joy Ride (runner-up)
- Best Fighting Game - Tekken 6 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 XBLA (runner-up)
- Best Puzzle Game: Saw and Scibblenauts (runner-up)
- Best RPG - Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy XIII (runner-up)
- Best Graphics: Assassins Creed 2 and Mass Effect 2 (runner-up)
- Best Sports Game - Madden NFL 2010 and Tony Hawk: Ride (runner-up)
- Best Music Game - DJ Hero and The Beatles: Rock Band (runner-up)
