1 vs. 100 Beta Host Announces Real-Prizes Start this Friday

    by Eric Bush

During last Friday's episode of the North American 1 vs. 100 Live beta test, a Xbox Live version of the popular TV game show, host Chris Cashman announced that the current sweepstakes will end on July 12, and that a new sweepstakes will start on July 13. You can acquire entries for playing the game and correctly answering questions during its beta test, which is going on now.

The bigger announcement, though, is that, while the game will still be considered in beta test, Microsoft will start awarding prizes to participating players beginning next Friday, July 10. Up to this point, prize indications have come up on the screen, which state Microsoft Points and Xbox Live Arcade games that are awarded to players, but the producers have been clear (with a text disclaimer shown before players enter the game. as well as Cashman making similar announcements during the game) that these prizes are not currently being awarded. However, that will change this coming week: the One, the Mob and the Crowd will receive any prizes that they are due to receive from gameplay.

If the One (the player chosen to answer questions on the virtual stage) knocks out everyone in the Mob (the 100 players randomly selected to go against the One), the prize will be 10,000 Microsoft Points (approximately $125 U.S.); or the One can choose at various points in the game to "take the money," which can be up to 6,000 Microsoft Points (about $75). If the One misses a question, the surviving Mob members get an Xbox Live Arcade game and an amount of Microsoft Points that seems to be in the $1–$5 range. Also, the top three in the Crowd (those spectating, but able to answer questions for sweepstakes entries) in each game will win an Xbox Live Arcade game.

Microsoft is offering the game on Xbox Live, in partnership with reality-show producer Endemol, for free to Gold members (though it has opened the beta occasionally to Silver members).
