Ghostbusters Sells One-Million Copies Across North America

    by Eric Bush

New York, NY - July 27, 2009 - Atari, one of the world's most recognized video game publishers, announced today that it has sold one million units of Ghostbusters: The Video Game across North America. The highly anticipated title was released on June, 16, 2009 and has quickly become one of the hottest video games of the summer.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game, based on the smash hit motion picture franchise, is penned by original Ghostbusters writers and stars Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd and reunites many of the original cast members to recapture the unique blend of humour and fright that established Ghostbusters as a pop culture sensation. In collaboration with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and acclaimed development studios Terminal Reality and RedFly, Atari published this completely all-new chapter of the blockbuster Ghostbusters saga to advanced gaming platforms to coincide with the 25(th) Anniversary celebration of the film's original theatrical release.

To date, some of the most notable critics within the gaming industry have praised the game, stating:

    • "Simply put, Ghostbusters rocks" - GameZone
    • "The best damn Ghostbusters game I've ever seen" - Play Magazine
    • "This is the ultimate Ghostbusters fan festival" - Game Informer
    • "It's not just good: it's great" - GameSpot
    • "Entertaining experience with plenty of laughs" - 1UP

"We are very pleased with the performance of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and credit the game's quality as well as the incredible support from both the established and new fan-base all helping to make this a retail success," said Jim Wilson, Atari CEO. "Ghostbusters appears to be a strong and relevant movie-based franchise video game independent of a brand-new theatrical release. We look forward to the continued success of the title as interest and acclaim increase across North America."

Ghostbusters: The Video Game is currently available at retailers across North America for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft ($59.99), Windows PC ($29.99), PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system ($59.99), PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system ($19.99), Wii(TM) ($39.99) and Nintendo DS(TM) ($29.99).

Set two years after Ghostbusters II, with Manhattan once again overrun by ghosts and supernatural forces, the game also features performances from fan favourites such as William Atherton (Walter Peck), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) and Brian Doyle-Murray (portraying Mayor Jock Mulligan).
