Bioware Details Dragon Age: Origins Collector's Edition

    by Chad Grischow

Following hot on the heels of the pushed back release date of November 3rd, EA and BioWare today announced the details of the Collector's Edition for Dragon Age: Origins. Those looking for out-of-game trappings to ogle over will find plenty to enjoy in the $74.99 package. The premium edition comes in a steel case, with a cloth world map of the game, a making of documentary on DVD, a digital version of the soundtrack, along with trailers, wallpapers, strategy tips for the game and a video with concept art. Those looking for some in-game goodies will be equally pleased with the package, with two pieces of downloadable content and an additional one for those who choose to pre-order.

The first, and most sizable, is The Stone Prisoner. The additional content provides gamers with Shale, a stone golem who can reportedly become one of the strongest members of your party. The Stone Prisoner also provides new environments and items, along with Shale's own back-story and quests. Those without the Collector's Edition will be able to download the expansion for $15, so you are getting your money's worth with this piece of content alone.

The second Collector's Edition bonus is an interesting piece of equipment. Downloadable content with the word 'armor' has understandably become a bit of a joke with gamers, after the Oblivion's Horse Armor debacle, but Origins' Blood Dragon Armor might restore armor's good name. Gamers who purchase the Collector's Edition of the game receive a code to download the themed armor for some extra protection in the game, as well as the ability to use the armor in the upcoming Mass Effect 2. The cross-title bonus is an enticing carrot that might be too hard to resist, given all you get for the extra $15.

As an added pre-order bonus, gamers will also get an equipable Memory Band, adding +1% to gained experience and an additional bonus point for your character's skills. If that does not get your blood pumping, you might want to hold off, since it sounds as if there may be retailer-specific pre-order bonuses coming soon. If you cannot wait, head over to www.eastore.ea.com and place your pre-order today.
