Judging from some of the recent posts on the official Xbox.com forums, rumors are spreading that Microsoft may have started to ban Xbox 360's with modified firmware.
User Furydog made
this post in the technical support area of the forums saying that two of his Xbox 360's have been giving off the error code for a banned console, and that he can no longer connect to Xbox Live. He also says that he has not modified his console.
I have two xbox 3lthough, he did confirm that the status codes I received indicate that my systems Mac addresses are banned because their supposedly MODDED. I am hoping this can get someones attention and they can help solve this issue because I have done nothing wrong and I am being screwed. Here are the status codes I recieve under Xbox Live Failed W:0000-0021, X:0000-F001, Y:00A8-6820, Z:8015-190D.This was followed with a post by a Xbox.com support user who said,
"We are currently investigating this issue. Please be patient... We apologize about the problem."
The firmware hacks or mods allow people to play backup/copied games and can also be used for video games piracy. For the past few months Microsoft has been relatively silent on the issue, even though they first knew about it back in
March, and also posted about it again in
May.
Whether this particular instance is indeed due to Microsoft beginning to ban modified Xbox 360's, or the affected user Furydog is suffering from some other problem, we can not say at this stage. However we hope to be able to bring you more information soon.
