Electronic Arts is looking to recapture the attention of WWII obsessed gamers with the release of Medal of Honor Airborne, and they hope these new screenshots will help. The images show off a lot of night fighting and definitely look well-rendered. It would be hard to say we're not looking at next-gen visuals.
I am a nearly twisted war buff, having traveled and collected my way through much of WWII. I remember when Medal of Honor had my heart. It was the first World War II shooter I had ever played, and even in clunky past-gen skin it was the first game that made me feel like I was playing one of my favorite war films.
Though MoH was my first love, it couldn't stand up to the assault from games like Call of Duty and Brothers in Arms. The last MoH I played was so disappointing I don't even remember the title, and I tossed it down after about 7 minutes of play. Though WWII has been nearly worn out, even for me, I might still have room in my soul for another couple of games, and I hope Medal of Honor Airborne brings something new to the table.

The latest entry is supposed to focus heavily on the randomness of airborne drops, allowing you to steer your way down onto the battlefield. This mechanism would let you start each game from a different point, making it a slightly less linear path than most WWII shooters. I'm not sure how well this will be implemented, but it could be something to help it stand apart.
The trouble with the genre, in some ways, is that we all know how it ends. Unlike sci-fi or generic action, you can't just create an open-world single player campaign that leads down wildly different paths based on gameplay. If someone put in a lot of effort, a sandbox in this historical setting would be possible, but it hasn't been the focus of most previous games.
Great graphics, smooth controls and a passable story would all be big improvements for the Medal of Honor series, but I hope we see something new.
