Too Humanby George
Silicon Knights describe Too Human as a “third-person epic action-game”. You play as the cybernetic God Baldur, fighting in a battle which threatens the existence of the whole of mankind. The game will be a three part trilogy, the first part sees Baldur burdened with the task of protecting mankind from an onslaught of war machines, trying to destroy mankind. Thanks to the use of the Unreal 3 Engine players will enjoy a non-stop barrage of action as well as life like visuals and a large array of weapons, including melee weapons and fire arms.
Too Human originally started development on the Playstation console, but before its completion Nintendo signed a deal with silicon knights moving the game from the Playstation to the Nintendo Gamecube. Microsoft now have a deal with silicon knights and the game has become an Xbox 360 exclusive. Canadian developers Silicon Knight are behind such titles as "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes" and "Eternal Darkness”, they also worked on “Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain” a top down rpg for the original playstaion and the pc.
Silicon Knights have put a lot of work in to the combat system for “Too Human”, players are able to perform Baldur's range of combat manoeuvres, by using the controller to make a chain of commands. Silicon Knights describes this innovative system as “ easy to learn and rewarding to master.”. The combat system reminds me of a complex dance routine, but slightly more violent.
If you have not already done so, I advise you to go take a look at the trailer here. Even though trailers are never a very good indication of how good the final game will be, we can still get a good idea of how the game will play. From the small amount of combat shown in the trailer you can see how smooth the system is, and you will have an idea about how many moves/attacks there will be for you to piece together for a combination. Graphically the game seems to be on par with highly anticipated Xbox 360 games like Gears Of War, which also uses the unreal engine. If the screenshots are to be believed there is a lot of detail in the characters, landscapes and lighting effects used during the attack sequences.
Denis Dyack, the founder of Silicon Knights, has said that they are about 40% to 50% finished with Too Human. Even though they are only about half done with Too Human Dyak has told IGN that they are already thinking about a Too Human two. Silicon Knights have not yet confirmed a release date but they have said that the storyline plays a very important role in the game, and that the man versus machine theme is only “the tip of the iceberg”.
Silicon Knights have spent over ten years on this title, and from what we have seen so far, which is very little, it seems to have paid off. Too Human’s graphics are very impressive and detailed. During the combat scenes in the video we can see that the graphics are also very fluid. The game uses a new combat system which looks a little complicated, but Silicon Knights say that it is going to be easy to pick up. We should not expect to see this title anytime soon, but best bets show that the game should be released sometime next year.
