Grapevine, TX - October 3, 2009 - As the gaming world celebrates the launch of Halo 3: ODST, one of the most anticipated releases of the year, Bob McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising for GameStop, the world’s largest video game and entertainment software retailer, commented on the successful launch:
“While we don’t disclose sales figures for individual games, I can say reservations for Halo 3: ODST prior to launch were very strong, and first-day sales exceeded our expectations. We hosted successful midnight launch activities in almost 3,700 GameStop stores that were well attended, with some locations reporting lines of enthusiastic customers waiting for midnight sales to commence. That’s as much a testament to the legions of dedicated Halo fans as it is to the compelling marketing campaign that was waged to drive new Halo customers to purchase.”
Continuing to build excitement for launch, today GameStop is kicking off its Halo 3: ODST nationwide tournament across 2,200 store locations. Halo aficionados are invited to compete for berth in the “Melee in Manhattan” finals and a chance to win $5,000.
