Don't Forget About Call of Duty 3by Nelson Rodriguez
There is a gritty shooter that has been highly anticipated for quite some time, and has built a bit of a buzz, and is finally hitting stores this week. No, not that one!
I nearly shed a tear when the Call of Duty 3 press release came across my screen this morning. I realize how callous we have all become. The press release doe not address anything we all don't already know about the game, but the publisher wants to make sure they don't get buried under a pile of Gears. I scanned across the last few days of headlines on our site and found that we have not covered a Call of Duty 3 news item since October.
At 9:30 am on CoD3's launch day, a quick review of the most popular game blogs, from Major Nelson to Joystiq to Kotaku finds not one single shred of Call of Duty 3 coverage on the front page. Of course, blogs are not the only source of information in the world, but they are usually a sign of what is being discussed by their readers. This game is the sequel to the most popular game still played on the Xbox 360 since it launched, and it has arrived in stores today, though you almost wouldn't know it.
What happened? So many questions must be asked, and I hope you will answer.
Should Activision have chosen a different launch day for this game? Are people that tired of World War II? Do you have $120 to spend on games today? Will it be Gears or CoD3 or both?
