Speaking at a the Montreal Games Summit, a high ranking Electronic Arts executive calls Epic Studios' Gears of War overrated. As reported by
Eurogamer, Alain Tascan, the general manager for EA Montreal told industry attendees that he believes Gear of War is more a graphical achivement than a gaming achievement.
During a panel discussion, Tascan asked the audience, ""Why are people loving it so much?" He went on to explain his doubts about gameplay, insisting that Epic focused mainly on the look of the game. "It's like added production value, incredible cutscenes and the best ever graphics ever... I can't wait to play it, but let's face that graphics are still number one."
In reference to gameplay Tascan said, "myself, I prefer something more creative". Clearly Tascan works for the competition, but his opinion can't be entirely discounted. He did admit that Gears of War will be a huge success. it should be noted that his comments come before having had a chance to play the game.
Someone tell Microsoft about the whole "gonna be a success" thing.
