For whatever reasons, several GameStops in the northeastern U.S. broke Modern Warfare 2's November 10th street date and began selling it early this weekend (check the receipt below for proof). So that gives a head-start to matchmaking, multiplayer unlocks, bragging rights, and general rant/raving about the game.
So if you've managed to get a copy of the game early - we doubt GameStop or the northeast are the only retailers and regions where the game's broken street worldwide - feel free to comment about the situation below this news post. You might also want to connect with other lucky gamers who snagged MW2 so you can play online (count me in).
UPDATE: GameStop corporate responded to Kotaku late Sunday afternoon, confirming that the decision to break the street date was made corporately. "This past weekend, GameStop made the decision to break street date and sell reserved copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in select markets where other retailers had broken street date," said Chris Olivera, GameStop's vice president for corporate communications. "Our decision followed many conversations with Activision and was an effort to protect our customer base."
