2. “Second Sun” - I’ll be combining a few here, but they all roll together creating an exceptional jaw dropping experience. First picking up at the end of “On Their Own Accord” where Private Ramirez and his squad are cornered by a group of Russian soldiers before being blinded by a helicopter’s spotlight. Cutting to Sat-1, an anonymous Astronaut with a view of the International Space Station, we as gamers are treated as gamers to a dialogue between Houston and Sat-1 waiting to see a supposed bogey. This bogey turns out to be the weapon launched by Captain Price and is an impressive sight to see when it detonates in the upper atmosphere blacking out the entire Eastern seaboard of the United States of America as the result of an electromagnetic pulse. In the process though, the ISS is destroyed and the anonymous Astronaut is killed. Following this, the battle raging through the city is sensational as helicopters fall from the sky and combat rages amongst the obvious issue of having no electrical devices whatsoever, including holographic or red dot sights. So while slugging it out may be a bit difficult, as long as you can find a weapon with iron sights, you’ll be ready to rock.
1. “The Enemy Of My Enemy” (Spoiler!) - So, by now, you know that Sheperd is an evil, very crooked villain, has killed Roach and Ghost, set them on fire and is now out to kill Soap and Captain Price. So, faced with few other options, you and Captain Price, with the help of Nikolai escape through an aircraft graveyard. At first, the level seems a bit closed off, but opens up to reveal an immense firefight raging between Makarov’s men and Sheperd’s Shadow Company and in between the two groups, there’s you and Price. Faced with the option, I recommend you run like Hell and only kill who you absolutely positively have to kill. But the sheer amount of chaos, which I had to remind myself was controlled, designed and developed by Infinity Ward, was a sight to see. It was amazing watching these two groups try to destroy each other and make a point to, in so few words, excuse myself since we as players have bigger fish to fry. But in this moment I realized something as a gamer; Modern Warfare 2 isn’t a story about any other characters than Price and MacTavish. Very much like Batman and Robin, Kirk and Spock or Siegfried and Roy, these two characters are the pillars that hold up the story, holding up the Modern Warfare franchise like Atlas holds up the Earth. It’s these two characters that’ll consistently be thrown together and it was in this level that it sunk in that this is the Empire Strikes Back of the series and that there will, without a doubt, be a Modern Warfare 3.
