For those of you who were able to see what little footage was shown at Spike’s VGA show this past Saturday, you would have noticed the new in-game engine trailer from Halo: Reach, which is slated for release Fall 2010 essentially keeping all of us Halo fanboys in tight-knit stitches until at least the beta is available Spring next year. In the meantime, the trailer will have to do and while it isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, there are some definite indications that what we’re getting here is something new and exciting. If you haven't already seen the trailer in complete form make sure to watch it,

As with previous Halo trailers we’ve seen, there is always the daunting moment of a Spartan donning a helmet. Usually, it’s the Master Chief who we’ve all come to know and love, but this helmet isn’t the helmet of our harrowing hero. The helmet above is clearly the ODST permutation of MJONIR armor, which belongs to a Spartan who will be referred to as “Lieutenant” during the course of the video.

It seems like once again, the troop carrier version of the Warthog is back. I think after seeing it so many times, we’ve gotten a bit used to it, but all the same. Good to know it’s here.

Looking at these flyers, they seem to be the ancestral versions of the Hornet that we’ve come to see throughout previous entries in the Halo series. Further images are provided for additional comparison.

Clearly, the parallels that can be drawn between the two vehicles are relatively obvious. The Hornet is a more slimmed down version of the previous iteration, with the cannon at the front toned down significantly along with troops riding on the sides instead of inside the vehicles.
This is the Spartan Lieutenant we can only infer that the player will be filling the role of, since Bungie traditionally wants those playing to feel that virtual immersion. As we can see, the metallic cling of weapons to the MJONIR armor is still visible and it seems the M6D from Halo 1, which ruined the day of countless Covenant is going to be available in Halo: Reach.
