Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Sequel Detailsby Nelson Rodriguez
Dutch website Xbox 360 Only has revealed some new details about the improvements being planned for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. The sequel to one of the most popular games for the 360 is due to hit stores in the first quarter of 2007. Unless you can read Dutch, you will be forced to wade through a hacked translation of the site. If you want to save your brain the effort, just know that G.R.A.W.2 will sport upgraded particle effects, dynamic weather, stronger enemy AI and an improved Cross-Com. The particle effects will include smoke that moves and swirls around objects and characters. The dynamic weather is said to include water effects that will cause water levels to rise in the game after a rain. Enemies will make better use of the map, if the original wasn't tough enough for you. Luckily the new Cross-Com will do a better job of identifying threats and letting you know the type of enemy you are facing (whether sniper or machine gunner or rifleman). The storyline is said to follow the course of three days and takes you back to the Mexican border. As always, this information is not confirmed, but seems like a good peek into what we can expect for next year.

Splenius: Negative - _I_ didn't say GRAW was a terrible game. Those comments at the bottom were translated comments from the web site. I LOVE GRAW - my friends and I play it very often. It's a lot of fun! :)
If I was going to pick a single flaw, I'd go with the controls. Pretty weak - you can't control your turning speed? |

Improved particle effects, smoke...
That's good but don't stop there Ubisoft.
GRAW has been among the top played Xbox Live games since its launch - put the work in the MULTIPLAYER, not single player. I am willing to bet most fans of this game would like to see: improved graphics, bigger maps, more than 16 player matches, improved aiming/shooting controls while taking cover.
Stonesand, could you tell us why you think GRAW is a terrible game? |

Nice one Stonesand! |

By "mission", I trust you mean you were killin' terrorists while working for the CIA, Stonesand?
Your secret is safe with me.
GRAW2 has potential... |

I happen to speak Dutch, since I served a mission in the Netherlands. Here's my translation:
Monday 20 November 2006 - a number of weeks ago,
during the presentation of the annual financial
reports of Ubisoft, the French company announced that
they are currently working on the sequal to the
succesful Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.
[Apparently] the game will appear in the first
quarter of 2007, this should soften the waiting for
Assassin's Creed and Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway
a bit. Game Informer has today received the first
details of this new [deal, thing].
Look below for the most important details.
-De development of GRAW 2 begun before GRAW was in
stores.
-The weather in Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
will change dynamically during the game. So, a
sandstorm can suddenly appear, or the wind can blow
strongly, or it can begin raining. After a
rainstorm, pools of standing water will be left, and
the entire area will [look, appear, be] wet.
-A new smoke effect technology is being developed for
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 called 'Depth
Sprite'. The smoke will move realistically, [even
over and around various objects]. In one demo that
Game Informer saw, a helicopter landed that caused
the smoke to realistically blow around.
-The smoke will also change as the wind blows, for
example, or as light shines on it. For example, an
explosion will cause the all of the smoke particles
to reflect the light in real-time.
-The particle effects have also been improved.
During an explosion, debris [already on the groun]
will realistically move, and will cause cause damge
to other objects, such as concrete.
-You can also look through certain objects, to a
certain angle. Thus you can look through layers of
other materials if a light shines on them.
-The AI of the terrorists is much improved. The
terrorists will now seek high ground in order to have
a better shooting position. From that, they will
more often [have a strong reach].
-The Cross-com system is also improved. It gives you
more details of enemies, such as which class they are
(for example, sniper). As you [spot more enemies],
the most dangerous for your [squad] will appear on
the map.
-The story takes place this time along the border
between Mexica and America, where [you fight on both
sides]. The environment will also be more varied,
for example, like a forest, a city, or on a mountain.
The story occurs over the space of 72 hours.
As we've already said, the game is planned for an
April 2007 release - in any event, the game will
apear on the Xbox 360, and certainly more platforms.
A quick translation of the comments below as of 11:44
AM 11/20/2006 PST:
If this is all true, then this game is going to
[rock].
[Totally], I'm very interested!
Sounds really good!
Hopefully, it will have a similar reload system as
Gears of War! Then will this [totally rock].
[I only liked the single player].
Myself, I'm expecting a lot of GRAW 2, as I thought
GRAW was a terrible game.
Hopefully VERY pretty graphics. |

Interactive environments like doors, buildings and vehicles would be a welcome step in evolution for the game!
But for some reason, I expect that not to happen... |

Great to hear about the improvements, hope corss-comdon't make things too easy |
