We know that Gears of War has now overtaken Halo 2 as the most played game on the Xbox 360, but if reviews count for anything, Gears has just stomped Bungie's crown jewel in Game Rankings' list of the greatest games of all time.
Game Rankings compiles reviews of games and keeps a running list of all games ever released. In less than a month, Gears of War has climbed the charts past Halo 2 and might even make it into the top 10, alongside Ocarina of Time, Resident evil 4 and the original Halo - the only Xbox game listed at the top.
Gears was one of the most hyped games in recent history, but as
gearheadsofwar.com pointed out, the sales figures and reviews it has been receiving are catapulting it past speculative hype and into a bona fide all-time success. As new reviews get added to the list, Gears of War has a solid chance of improving its position, when compared to some relatively old games that won't be getting new reviews any time soon.
