AOL's video game magazine,
gamedaily.com, has done a side by side comparison of Sony's PS3 shooter Resistance: Fall of Man, and our dear Xbox 360 mega-hit Gears of War. They seem to think Resistance beats Gears by a nose.
The article focused on some of the standard subjective categories but included some offbeat ones like "Best Monsters" and "Best Weapons". Gears came ahead in only two of the eight, graphics and audio. Though the author considered both games good and found they were evenly matched in a few ways, he thought Resistance was the clear winner in weapons, multiplayer and back story.
All told, the author feels that Resistance delivers a better experience and a more robust story design and multiplayer architecture. I have to give the author a hand for wading into such a contentious battle, and if he's right then I hope I get to play Resistance some day, since he claims it beats one of the best gaming experiences in recent memory.
I have heard a lot of reports of Resistance being only a decent game, and not a killer app but I have not played it myself. Any lucky PS3 owners out there who have played both and want to weigh in?
