If there is one thing that leaves gamers drooling over themselves in anticipation for an upcoming title, it’s a great trailer. This year treated gamers to more than the fair share of exceptional videos that showcased some exquisitely awesome games. I tried to keep it with titles that have either released in 2009 or will release early 2010, thus there will be no Halo Reach here. Although Reach has an awesome trailer and you can read my trailer dissertation here, I suggest you sit back and for the next few minutes enjoy the trailers that blew our minds in the year 2009.
10. The Beatles: Rock Band: As one of the most iconic bands to ever walk the Earth, it was only appropriate that the Beatles received their own entry into the music game genre. Following their career from the very beginning it shows just how far the band came over time along with all the different phases and changes that left people wanting more. From hardcore fan to even the most plebian of music fans, if you’ve lived long enough to listen to music, you know who The Beatles are and it was only too appropriate that they got an epic trailer to make us want an epic game.
9. Resident Evil 5: While critically not as laudable as its predecessor in the series, Resident Evil 5 nonetheless stands as a strong iteration into the Resident Evil Saga. After all, what is a year without another tale of Umbrella Corporations evil masterminding to turn us all into shuffling zombies? Boring, that’s what. One of the later trailers shows gamers enough to get them interested and more than enough to get them to buy the game. And since zombies have assimilated an entirely new respect in the video game industry, I don’t think any self-respecting gamer can ever forget their first and for many of us, it was Resident Evil.
8. Splinter Cell: Conviction: Setting up for one of the more anticipated sequels coming out next year, it’s been a while since we saw Sam Fisher in a way we wanted to see him. The previous title wasn’t what gamers had really come to expect and so far, Conviction is shaping up to be everything Splinter Cell gamers could want and more. Sure, stealth is important, but sometimes you just have to break a few skulls to get what you want.
