The long and tumultuous road to release for Splinter Cell: Conviction suffered another blow today as Ubisoft announced that it would be delaying the title for the fourth time, due to a soft retail market and a reduced earnings forecast. The highly-anticiapted action title for Xbox 360 now has a release window of sometime in April 2010. This is a huge letdown as I got to spend some time with the game at CES last week and came away thoroughly impressed with what the developers have done so far; hopefully this will be the last delay before it's retail outing.
Ubisoft has told Eurogamer Splinter Cell: Conviction was delayed last night was to “add more polish”.“ The game looks brilliant, but we want it to be awesome,” said a rep from the company. Ubisoft has also announced a delay for R.U.S.E., their upcoming real time strategy title, though they did not specify a new release date for the game. Ubisoft claims their lowered financial expectations are due in large part to a softening of the Wii and DS market for third parties, as well as lower than expected sales for their licensed Avatar title, based on James Cameron's blockbuster film.
