Lots of conspiracy theories and outrage have been hitting the internet over the last couple days regarding some Final Fantasy XIII screenshots that Square Enix released during the X10 Expo in San Francisco; the screens were copied/altered. Well to be precise they are exactly the same, with different button overlays on them - meaning that someone at the developer's headquarters took some screenshots from one of the systems, and altered them in Photoshop to look like they were taken on the other system (at this time we don't know which the original console was, but it doesn't really matter). The reason people are getting all hot and bothered is the fact that the gamers want to see what Final Fantasy XIII actually looks like on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. No one wants to see fake, altered screens and be told they are in fact actual screens from one console or the other. This morning Square Enix released an official response, which we have included below:
Official Response: “Unfortunately we did mistakenly include screenshots taken for pre-production (non-promotional use only) in our latest release of assets,” read a Square statement. “Screenshots from the final game intended for the press kit will be released shortly. As shown in our recent demo tour and Microsoft’s X10 event, there is no material difference between the two consoles.”
The good news is that they official say that Final Fantasy XIII looks identical on both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360, which is great to hear for all us 360 owners that have been scared stiff over the last couple months by the PS3 fanboys out there. Telling us we would be getting an inferior Final Fantasy product, thankfully that is not the case. Stay tuned for more coverage on this highly-anticipated JRPG, right here at PlanetXbox360.com.
