As the blockbuster prequel to the best-selling Xbox franchise of all time, developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach puts you front and center in the fateful moments that forged the Halo legend. As recently as last week’s Microsoft X10 conference, there have been a slew of new details coming out about Halo: Reach. While this is in no way a bad thing, it definitely makes the days between now and the release of the game this fall seem all the more longer. But, in the meantime, we thankfully have the time to sit and wonder just what there is to be so excited about this new Halo game and why we’ll all eventually be a bit sad that this is supposedly Bungie’s last outing in the franchise. Check out our top 10 features Halo: Reach needs to be amazing.
10. Overhauled AI: As technology has advanced, so has Bungie’s ability to make Halo, as a franchise, all the more awesome and Reach is already shaping up to blow just about everybody’s minds. From the corridor shooter we came to know and decidedly love with just about all of our heart, Halo: Combat Evolved wasn’t only beautiful, it was an FPS the likes of which we hadn’t previous seen. Bungie, using their original masterpiece as inspiration, sets to get back that glorious feeling we felt with Combat Evolved when we boot up Halo: Reach for the first time. However, there are plans to significantly up the ante in the form of far larger battles than we’ve previously seen in the series. Players will be able to expect large scale combat with 30 – 40 AI opponents on-screen at any given time. Additionally, it should be noted that Reach will also have the capacity for larger contingents of Marines to assist the player and their squad than in previous titles.

9. New Gorgeous Landscapes: Halo 3 may seem graphically dated and ODST wasn’t about to win any beauty contents, but the sheer amount of flexibility the engine afforded Bungie and players who grew fond of The Forge can attest to the power it possessed. For Reach, Bungie has taken the steps to create a new engine from the ground up to put a little bit of pop back into the Halo Universe. Sure, it may be a prequel, but it’ll be a lot prettier than you’ll remember it being.
8. Four-Player Campaign: Sure, Modern Warfare 2 had a fantastic campaign and it was fun to playthrough, but even the Spec Ops didn’t have a four-player component. Halo has since Halo 3 was released and many gamers haven’t looked back. From the sheer community feeling gamers get from playing through a campaign together to surviving the punishing difficulty of Legendary, four-player co-op is still where it’s at in terms of gameplay and I’m glad to see that Bungie will be bringing it back once again.
