WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 Goes Platinum

by Matt Gibbs

THQ and JAKKS Pacific today announced that the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 video game has been added to the “Platinum Hits” collection for the Xbox 360. The game also has joined Sony’s “Greatest Hits” collection for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and PSP (PlayStation Portable) system. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 versions of the game originally launched in November 2006 and are now available for the suggested retail price of $19.99. The PSP system version, which launched in December 2006, will be available at retail on September 5 for the same suggested retail price.

Achieving ‘Platinum Hits’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ status simultaneously is a tremendous honor that speaks to the continued growth and development of the SmackDown vs. Raw video game franchise,” said Scott Guthrie, senior vice president, North American sales and distribution, THQ. “We look forward to seeing its popularity expand further as we bring WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 to seven platforms this holiday season, including the franchise’s return on Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and wireless devices, and its debut on the Wii™ home video game console, Nintendo DS™ and the PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system.”

We are extremely pleased with the success of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 and our ability to release ‘Platinum Hits’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ editions respectively for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PSP system,” said Nelo Lucich, vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. “This milestone demonstrates the continued strength of the WWE brand among video game fans and we believe the reduced price point will bring the WWE video game experience to an even larger audience.”
