Interview: Team Behind Enemy Territory: Q.W.

by Eric Bush

Recently at an Activision press event in the lovely San Francisco we were given not only a chance to go hands-on with id Software's upcoming shooter Enemy Territory: Quake Wars but to sit down with the Executive Producer, Kevin Cloud, and a designer for Nerve (company working on 360 version) to chat a little bit. Overall the experience we had at the event was positive, the game was generally good but could use a good nit of pollishing and bug-fixing before the final retail version is anywhere near completion. Check out the full interview below with the exclusive information that there are 12 maps in the game, all unique in nature! Once you have read the interview below jump on over to our "Hands On" preview of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars at Quake Wars Hands-on Preview - PlanetXbox360.com.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Interview [Kevin Cloud - Executive Producer (id Software); Greg Stone - Head Designer (Nerve Software

1. PlanetXbox360.com - Can you tell us a bit about how long this game has been in development and if you are excited to bring it to the Xbox 360?
Kevin Cloud - Basically this game has been in development for over two uears, basically we just started noticing around the office how much fun we were having Enemy Territory: Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and decided it was time to take the Enemy Territory franchise to a new universe.

2. PlanetXbox360.com - What are some of the differences between the PC and Console versions of the game?
Greg Stone - Considering the PC version of the game came out some time ago we have been lucky enough to receive hundreds, if not thousands, of e-mails and forum posts regarding what gamers liked and disliked about the title. Taking those suggestions we are confident that the version coming out for next-gen systems is the best possible version of the game out there right now. There are also some suibtle changes in Quake Wars for the consoles that were not in the PC version, for example the aiming system needed a lot of balance before moving it over to the consoles.

3. PlanetXbox360.com - Following up on that question what would you tell gamers that already own Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for the PC and are thinking about picking it up on their 360 or PS3?
Kevin Cloud - This is a tough question but I think I can come up with a couple good answers for you: 1) there is no auto-aim for the PC version, 2) the overall experience is different (see to believe), 3. the A.I. has been bumped up and worked on since the PC game release so the experience will be much more challenging, 4. this console version gives casual gamers more of a chance to try out the Quake Wars franchise and fall in love with the series, 5. although the controls are a bit tricky to get used to over time I found myself playing with the 360 controller more than a mouse/keyboard, 6.

4. PlanetXbox360.com - What is your favorite aspect of Enemy Territories: Quake Wars for the Xbox 360, exclusively.
Greg Stone - Lastly the online system (Xbox Live) is just stellar and will setup multiple amazing matches for players and fans of the franchise from around the globe.

5. PlanetXbox360.com - Were there any development issues that cause you guys problems throughout the process of transferring the game over to the Xbox 360?
Greg Stone - Not really, other than the normal control and differing development kits, I would have to say for the most part the process went surprisingly easy.

6. PlanetXbox360.com - What can you tell us about the "campaign" mode?
Kevin Cloud - Basically there is a campaign mode in the game and each campaign consists of three separate maps, each with there own objectives and strategy layout. The amazing AI that takes place in this game really gives the BOTS an advantage over the game and for that fact players should be surprised at the difficulty of the single-player mode.

7. PlanetXbox360.com - Can you tell us anything about what id Software is working on next and if there are any games you personally are handling?
Kevin Cloud - The only thing you, or your readers, need to know is that everything they have been waiting for is coming real soon from id Software and it will simply blow your mind. I would say something about a certain Castle Wolfenstein but all that needs to be saved for a later date.

We want to extend our thanks to Activision and id Software for their invitation to the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars press event as well as the chance to interview two of the main guys behind the title.
