F.E.A.R.

by Arthur K

Vivendi, Monolith and Day 1 Studios are teaming up to bring the fantastic PC shooter, F.E.A.R. to the Xbox 360. Using the same technology behind Condemned: Criminal Origins, which came out for the Xbox 360 late 2005 F.E.A.R. will introduce console players to its chaotic and fast paced style of gameplay.

F.E.A.R became quite popular on the PC by combining insane, action-packed gameplay with horror elements resembling recent movies such as The Ring. The story is quite unique and revolves around your character, who has an incredible ability to slow time down and take advantage over his enemies. What this really does is it allows the developers to showcase the engine behind F.E.A.R and the amount of damage the virtual world in this game can take is insane. Bullet ricochets, dust and destructible physics all make an appearance in this beautiful game.

For those unfamiliar with F.E.A.R. and its’ plotline, you are a special soldier fighting for an agency of paranormal activity control, First Encounter Assault Recon, or F.E.A.R. A highly secretive project involving soldier clones goes terribly wrong when someone takes control of them using telekinesis, you are sent in and it is not long before things go terribly wrong. You soon start to spot a girl wearing a red dress who loves to kill soldiers fighting alongside with you.

Most of the game is spent in dark hallways and buildings; you will  basically be shooting the same soldiers the whole game, and even small mechs every once in a while. Day 1 Studios use the game’s engine and the incredible AI to make the fights differentiate one from the other, F.E.A.R. on the PC has won, and has been praised, numerous times for its’ amazing AI and the way your enemies react as if they were real humans – through this the game ends up giving you tonnes of cool moments and makes for a high replay value. There are many cool moments where you can use the “bullet-time” to pick off a grenade in the air and cause a tremendous and destructive explosion. This is exactly the reason why the developers decided to put an “Instant-Action” mode in the Xbox 360 version, while at the same time, the story line introduces more and more twists that keep you waiting until the end.
